No, they won't be turned to stone, but I suspect that they are rather fond of the monarchs and don't want to compare some of them to nasty things like Winter.
I only got the symbolism *while* writing the fic; I wrote it because I suddenly realised how much the ice thing threads through Edmund's history, and then it all sort of fell into place.
I suspect that between them, Edmund and Lucy actually ran the Kingdom.
