Title: Unexpected POV Snippet

Notes: We were considering (read: being utterly bemused by) what to produce for Experimental Writing. We reckon the snippet under the cut counts as experimental. If anyone can figure out what it's about and what the protagonist is, we will be very impressed. A hint: it's, er, the sort of thing we generally write about.

And then there was light, light so bright, reaching deep into the endless dark of night that had been my world. A chasm opened in the ceiling, and beyond I could see! I had never seen before, ensconced in the warm darkness, but the colours assailed me, almost too bright to bear. Then they were eclipsed, blocked by I knew not what. It was large, and throbbing, and its shape was familiar. Perhaps it wanted to be friends? I had never had a friend before.

It advanced into my abode, seeking the warm and succulent depths. I embraced it, this friend, this lover. We would never be parted.

But lo! I was misled, for a moment later it retreated. Had I offended it in some way?

...

And then it was gone, leaving me bereft and alone. But I knew it would return to me one day, my errant love, for it had left its mackintosh behind.
