More Narnia fic- a 100 word drabble concerning Susan, this time.

Notes: Trojie woke up this morning and this was preventing her from functioning by blocking up important parts of her brain. We think the 'Susan-thing' bothers most Narnia ficcers ... those not entirely consumed by writing pr0n that is, of course. We cling to the notion that ... well, you'll see.



Susan has to identify the bodies. She cannot help but think that, cruel as it is for them to be gone, it is crueller still to see them smile, happy in death. She knows where they are now - knows without any shadow of doubt. She longs to join them. But faith restored by harsh reality is of less value than faith followed blindly. She must wait for Aslan to take her.

It is a long time to wait. But there is no way around it. Cats play with mice for cruelty's sake. And, after all, he's not a tame Lion.

EEP. Ouch.

Nice twisted on the 'faith restored' part - I was a bit confused about that, I read it as Susan immediately wanting to go back to Narnia again as opposed to living the rest of her life and slowly regaining her faith in Aslan knowing best. But this is chilling, having your faith - belief - in a god restored when he says 'look what I can do'.*

And the last line nails it home.

*Which leads me off on a tangential conspiracy theory that Aslan killed Susan's family just to get her to believe again, and to eventually persuade her to come back to Narnia - which is worrying in the extreme. You don't kill five sheep to make the last errant sheep come back to the fold in terror. Perhaps mathematics is not Aslan's strong point.

I feel sorry for all the Susans in children's books. They always are the surrogate mother of the group and then end up 'growing up' and not having fun anymore. Even Arthur Ransom's Susan Walker has that problem. But at the same time I can't make myself write her an AU ending where she goes with them and everything is shinyhappy.

*sigh* Yes, we can. But I have a plot problem. The whole thing is floundering, and in danger of becoming too complex. I've switched to Eustace, in the hope of moving things along, but he turns out to be a very very slooooow moving character. Maybe I should go back to Reepicheep.

I WANT more VOTD porn, but I'm not sure when or if we'll get it. Possibly some angsty hand-jobs somewhere.

Reepicheep is scads of fun to write. If you need my aid at all, don't hesitate to throw things at me. Eustace is another one of those characters I'm tempted to play with a LOT, but haven't yet.

*snort* Well up until I got distracted by SuandEd interaction I was writing bits that involved mead being symbolic and melancholy!drunk!Caspian and mildly teasing!drunk!Edmund ... so if you don't get there first I might :P

I have Big Deep Ideas about Caspian and the Star's Daughter's relationship which will be coming out in the sequel to the sequel of Loyalty, though, and Caspian did need an heir, and much as I love Edmund/Caspian, Ed can't give Caspian an heir (because my biology professors would line up and give me the smacking of my LIFE if I wrote Mpreg) so we need a woman in there SOMEWHERE.

And also, the parts of the Tolkien fandom where ficcers have their Magical Land Where All Elves Are Gay and there are no women piss me off something royal and I don't want to turn Narnia into that kind of cesspit ...

I think Caspian is The One Big Bisexual Boy of the fandom. I won't bash R's D by saying he didn't love her. I'm sure he did. Just ... different to how he loves Ed. HE CAN LOVE THEM BOTH. Because ... I say so?

See, I seem to be the only person around who has a gay Caspian. Everyone ELSE in my fanon is bi or uninvestigated, except for Lucy who is asexual. And Caspian is gay by modern standards but Fucked Up by Telmarine standards.
